A yellow and black striped Bumble Bee is perched apparently upright at the heart of a pink Rhododendron blossom that curves around it, the stamens on the right are partly lit by sunlight as are some of the petals on the right. In a cluster of last year's dead grass and stems is a small fuzzy bee with black antennae and a typical black and yellowish striped abdomen.
Behold the Unequal Cellophane Bee! It's one of the first bees to fly around here in the spring - a pollinator of Red Maples. Cellophane bees are named for the females' ability to mix saliva with butt secretions to make something akin to saran wrap to waterproof their nest cells. #bees #pollinators

Don’t bring her indoors for long periods!
If she has already established a nest and laid eggs she needs to get back to sit on them to keep them warm - yes just like a hen!

Still snow on top of 15 cm of ice but the girls are out and buzzing in +8🎉 ;all hives. This was rough winter with multiple -30 in December with no snow but these reflectors worked great. First year using them.

These ‘between flight stopovers’ can last for up to an hour and #bees are not always careful about where they take them.
Sometimes the middle of a footpath can be the ‘ideal’ spot!
So if you see a big #bumblebee chilling on the ground don’t always presume she needs rescuing!

Photo of two Mining Bees (probably of the genus Andrena), on bare soil with stones of various sizes. We are looking at them from above and, in the case of the Bee near the top left corner of the image, a little from the front. The aforementioned Bee is facing towards the rear of the second one, who is facing towards the bottom right corner of the image. Both have blackish heads with large compound eyes, brown, hairy thoraxes, and abdomens which are dark with pale bands around them (largely obscured by the wings folded back across the bodies).

I stopped on the trail and noticed hundreds of low flying cute little bees on the forest floor. And hundreds of perfect circular burrow holes.
