Reflecting on the wonderful #BES2023 conference in Belfast last week. It was a joy to hang out with so many inspirational ecology people, and an honour to talk about the Hort-Ecology project I ran this summer with Emily May Armstrong at the Hidden Gardens in #Glasgow
Whatever illness I picked up at #BES2023 has completely flattened me. Today will be a good time to catch up on CPD.
Have you ever wondered what happens to a tree during the hurricane? You can now watch and simulate it with the hurricane machine brought to you by @markuseichhorn.bsky.social at #BES2023

Finally home after a wonderful week in Belfast presenting at @britishecolsoc.bsky.social #BES2023! Another fab conference, full of so many interesting topics (I especially loved the special session on fire). Northern Ireland, you were just perfect, stunningly beautiful and full of friendliness.
Last time I went off road after the @BritishEcolSoc conference in Belfast it was snowing. Now shorts would've been perfect

Here are the Belfast doodles #BES2023
One of clearly not seen in Belfast 😁
And that is #BES2023 over! Looking forward to #BES2024 in Liverpool. Been an honour to serve the @BritEcolSoc as President for 2 yrs. I think we got some important things done or started, on priorities for UK ecology, on global equity & in strategy…
Thanks @ymalhi for a splendid and wide ranging Presidential Address & for leadership over the past two years #BES2023
Who can believe just in the blink of an eye we’re near the end of #BES2023. Finally our very own @ymalhi’s Presidential Address. “Why do I do #ecology?”
Fabulous talk by @domcram on producer-scrounger dynamics by honeyguides in the human-honeyguide system #BES2023
Super talk on prospects for demographic modelling of trees using remote sensing by @AliceRosen #BES2023
Aland Chan: local forest height in Hong Kong is limited by wind speed more than any other factors. Trees that get too tall for their site suffer greater damage during cyclones. 🌏 #BES2023
Stockholm university delegation at #bes2023 landscape ecology, rivers, bats, plants, soil microbial communities, insects, landscape change 🧪🌿🛠️🌍
Adam, Lukas, Sara, Heather, Daniela, Anna say thank you Belfast and @BritishEcolSoc @Stockholm_Uni #natgeoSU @LandscapeSthlm

Good to see @savebutterflies State of UK’s Butterflies report featuring in @BradleyNealEnv’s talk this morning #BES2023
Come to the @BritishEcolSoc Stand and meet the committees! Make ecology count, make everyone count. Talk to us to see how you can influence and contribute to this wonderful community. #BES2023 #BESChristmas
Ferran Pauné: grazing by herbivores in Mediterranean woody vegetation causes increased water content in vegetation and hence reduces flammability as well as reducing total fuel load. Restoration of grazing can reduce fire impacts. 🌍 #BES2023
@lucymorley81 presenting a wealth of methods in studying phenological traits of trees and their invertebrate consumers @WythamWoods #BES2023!
Slide from Whova app with mostly blue background that reads: "British Ecological Society Annual Meeting 2023 Fox in the city: insights into the movement and feeding behaviour of Dublin's urban foxes"
My #BES2023 talk is today! Come along to the Behavioural Ecology session at 13.30 to hear about our urban fox project in Dublin!
Really great talk from @lucymorley81 on comparing different methods for phenology of trophic systems in woodland #BES2023
Closing slide of Bruno Cintra talk
Bruno Cintra: mortality rates of small trees in UK woodlands have been rising over 25 years, and recruitment rates falling. This is not consistent with stand development because they're not synchronised so the most likely cause is browsing by deer. #BES2023 🌍
Super sad to not be in #belfast presenting this and actually #interacting and #networking .. #BES2023 #MAREA #oysters #fluxes #modelling
Come and see @imarbaq lovely poster on pace of life syndrome and blue tits while there’s still time! #BES2023
Gearing up for my presentation at #BES2023 tomorrow. If folk are keen to hear about how multiple environmental factors influence salmonid niches across Fennoscandian lakes, come to Hall1D at 10:15 😁
Alessandra Fidelis: you can't restore cerrado or other fire-derived systems by looking above-ground only. Their sustainability lies below ground. 🌎 #BES2023
Man in front of slide titled "the curious case of capercaillie and pine marten"
What do we do when a recovering predator is targeting a rare prey species? Jack Bamber describes how supplemental feeding has reduced predation of capercaillie nests by pine marten. #BES2023
Great job by @jorgensoraker on the relationship between paternal care and paternity in birds - despite the AV hiccups! #BES2023
