A flock of Western Sandpipers is sleeping, each with their heads turned to the right, eyes closed, and bills tucked tightly down under their wings. They are golden brown in late day warm light, with light-colored rounded bellies. The glassy, rippled shallow water they are standing in reflects the scene and patterns they create. One bird standing on one leg is in front of the rest with every feather in perfect focus. Three increasingly out of focus birds echo its round shape and tones, going back into the distance to toward left, and many more very indistinct birds are even farther back behind them creating a soft pattern across the frame. The vertical scene is peaceful and somewhat monochromatic, almost abstract, except for the single in focus bird.
