"A Sky Without Birds"

No bees buzzing, no
Living creatures left, barren,
Devastating skies.

Eyes of the sky:
Hawks, Vultures and
Eagles
watch air currents
riding them on
increasing heights...

Tiny black spots
vanish.

A sky without birds…
A silence that marks the end—
My America…

Take Shelter

Weather ominous
Birds vanish and rumbles start
Tornado threatens

I once flew to a sky where birds were none but for the one of acclaim—
Jonathan Livingston Seagull
I asked him why should he fly
a different sky— was he not
satisfied to share with his mates
their slice of pie— were the stars
not all the same— was this blue
more azure did it have a soothing
name— were fishes here other
than flesh and bones— did the air
of this sky not suffocate
I must have rambled on & on
had it not been impossible to
keep up to his pace
Answers— he said— like birds in this
sky you’ll find none but in time
they’ll appear some one by one—
and all so sudden the flap stopped
as he floated in stasis— a million
space miles away
- C. Oulens

a sky without birds

first there is silence.
light ceases to bend
clouds grow heavy
stars sigh
and insects with iridescent wings
cover the earth
