A band tailed pigeon perches on a dying Douglas fir. The bird is light gray on its stomach, breast, throat and crown. It’s wings are a dark gray. Its beak and feet are bright yellow and its eyes are a dark amber. At the base of its skull, there is a thin white collar and just beneath that is a metallic green patch on the back of its neck.
#bandtailedpigeon, #patagioenastasciata, poses in a Douglas fir. They’re one of my favorite summer characters. They arrive mid March & stay until October. They migrate to SoCal, where they overwinter in the Baja area.

The Band-tailed Pigeon (Patagioenas fasciata) is the largest living pigeon in North America, and I think it has a lovely profile!
