We are very disappointed to hear that the government’s manifesto commitment to biodiversity net gain (BNG) has been watered down.

Though the exemptions are not as damaging as feared, this is still an unnecessary and regressive move.

There is simply no evidence to support the government’s narrative that protecting nature constrains economic growth.

The requirement for developments to ensure BNG is a hugely positive step, and most developers are now engaging positively with the new system; changing the rules now will just cause confusion and undermine the market.

We’re disappointed by the government’s decision to weaken #BiodiversityNetGain.
