Nipped out quickly on my lunch break once I saw my enormous tulips are basking in the sunshine. Photograph taken using a macro setting of a huge yellow tulip with orange-red streaks. Angle looks slightly down on the tulip. This particular tulip variety is a double so imagine cramming as many layers of petals as possible into its bloom. They have a tendency to snap off as their head gets too heavy. Gorgeous though 😊

Photograph taken using a macro setting of a Japanese Iris in a hothouse at Chatsworth House. Not seen these before. Their shape drew my attention because, let's be honest, there's not a whole lot of raucous colour going on. Lifted the flower and held it over the dark soil to get some contrast in the shot. Image shows a Japanese Iris dominating the frame from the top left corner. Bottom right corner is dark brown soil and the two frame edges have straight green leaves in the background. The iris has delicate petals, some with almost frilly edges arching backwards to expose more of its central petals. These protrude forwards with fingery edges not unlike some fine seaweeds.The central petals have a central stripe of the palest lavender. The outer petals, arching back have a pale egg-yolk yellow stripe with tiny spots of a warm grey. 'Pale and interesting' is how I was described by a family member once. Never forgotten it!

OK, so my little plea may be a bolt out of the blue but it's something I've been doing for the past year and it's magic! You may hear; "Nobody's ever bought me flowers before" which is sad. My elderly male neighbours beamed at a simple jam jar with daffodils in and my bro-in-law was speechless when he got a little birthday bouquet too. Don't ask if them first, surprise them! Last thing, if they have hayfever, google low pollen flowers first 😊 Soap box over!
