long after you left
as if neatness

Citrus Diplomacy

In my fruit bowl,
The orange won’t speak to the grapefruit … again.
Says it’s something about his tone.

The pear’s pretending not to listen,
wrinkling its skin in sympathy.

We sit there too …
polite, pithy, and slightly bruised.
