#Boletes are SO COOL! These are Zeller's Boletes (Xerocomellus zelleri) start with grey caps and reddish stems... I found them this fall in my Douglas fir forest in #BritishColumbia: young ones on left and older ones on right. Cool how they change over time... #fungi #mushrooms #NaturePhotography

Two brown mushrooms. Lumpy, convex caps, close to ground, with the pore surfaces hidden away. A few slug bites on the top of the larger one show the brownish meat inside. The smaller bolete has bigger bites taken out of two sides. The mushrooms are on a forest floor, wet with recent rain, in mostly dull colours; the Douglas-fir cone is almost black. Only the moss is bright green. One recently-fallen leaf is pale green.

On some unmowed grass rests a centered group of Chalciporus arranged to show the flesh, the cap, the stalk and the pores along with blue bruising of the pore surface in the center.

A beautiful large brown mushroom grows out of dark brown tree duff. Its stipe is thick and has a webby texture. Its cap is massive and has a large split in the center, showing the yellow and white inner flesh. Blurry blue circles, bokeh from distant breaks in the tree branches exposing blue sky, hover above it.

A vibrantly-coloured mushroom. The cap is a deep purplish blue, wrinkled like scrunched-up fabric. The underside of the cap has yellow pores; a cut-away area (slug bitten) shows the pores pointing downward. The stem is a vivid rosy red, streaky, with the streaks leading down the stem. The mushroom lies tipped over a bed of fine, bright green moss.
