A very close-up image of two termites in reddish chewed-up wood, with a third termite appearing near the bottom of the frame. The central termite has a tiny white arthropod on its back, a springtail, which is dwarfed by the termite.
A very cool find! I spotted this termite (Zootermopsis spp.) with a little springtail (Cheirotoma spp.) riding on its back. Apparently Cheirotoma are known hitchhikers on termites.

An image of a metal dock jutting out from Bowen Island into Howe Sound/Georgia Strait. The dock has a horizontal portion with triangular struts anchored into the water on two very tall pillars with an arch above them. Approximately a dozen gulls are sitting or standing along the railing. A cormorant is perched at the top of the arch spreading it's wings. The late afternoon sun is very bright rendering the birds largely as silhouettes. The choppy water is deep grey. Across the water, small mountainous landforms are mostly reduced to tonal blue silhouettes. The sky has a large amount of cloud cover, but it is very uniformly spread out and letting lots of light through.
A solo cormorant airs out its wings between fishing dives; a group of gulls lounges.

A photograph of the surface of Killarney Lake on Bowen Island. There is a very dense growth of waterlilies in the upper third of the image with more lightly scattered aquatic plants below. Approximately 80% of the image is shaded while the top is in full sun. The lily pads at the top are bright green and the shaded sections are a deep turquoise. The water which isn't coated with lily pads is very still and reflective. Small sections at the top are reflecting the forested banks. At the bottom, a few sparse wisps of cloud appear in a mostly clear sky. Near the bottom of the image and slightly off-centered to the left is a rounded rock jutting above the waterline.

A photograph of the surface of Killarney Lake on Bowen Island. The lake has a exceptionally dense grouping of water lilies. In the lower half of the image the lily pads are a bit scattered, but in the upper there are so many there is almost no water surface visible. Other than the very top of the image, there are shadows from the forested edges being cast across the water. This is giving the water and lily pads tones of deep blue, navy, and turquoise. Where the shadows end, there is an abrupt shift to vibrant green. A small amount of still water at the top edge of the image reflects the forest on the opposite bank.
Killarney, not Giverny.

Took the 3pm 257 bus and just barely made it on the 3:55pm ferry to #BowenIsland (there’s a 10minute cut off and the bus arrives at like 3:44pm).
Standing on the main deck for the crossing. Car overload ahead of the long weekend.
