I think what really struck me is all the videos of people who went out to inspect the empty beach when the water went out before the tsunami came in. I just know I'd have been one of those people. Would have never occurred to me it was dangerous. 100% would have died. #boxingdaytsunami

20 ago today, the #BoxingDayTsunami killed hundreds of thousands of people (230K? 300K? Nobody knows).

I was en route to #Indonesia when it hit, and reached #Aceh a few days later. You can still go to places like Ulee Lheue and see the #tsunami 's brutal legacy.

May all the victims #RestInPeace

As it’s both Boxing Day and 20 years since the horrific Tsunami, I’m rewatching “The Impossible.” Such an incredible film, seriously powerful and with an early heartbreaking performance from Tom Holland which showed us how much of a star he was destined to be. #boxingdaytsunami

It's 20 years since the Boxing Day tsunami hit south Asian islands & coasts. One lucky reporter had just got onto a ferry when the earthquake struck.

It was the third most powerful earthquake in recorded history, at a magnitude of 9.1.
