A second session report from the CIEP's 2023 conference. One that I'm very surprised nobody talked about more. I share this because this session gave me the most to think about. And I hope it will you too.

Happy to help! There were a couple of feeds for the #ciep2023 and #ACESVCon conferences but they don't seem to be loading for me. Some feeds show content for the last 7 days only, and I suspect that might be the problem. But useful for finding connections and who to follow. Do ask if you get stuck.
My favourite anecdote ftom Robin Ince's talk at #CIEP2023 was the one where someone was looking in a nineteenth-century book about naturalism, and found a cheque from Charles Darwin in it 😯
Marketing is simply letting people know how you can solve problems for them.
Get comfortable with being uncomfortable: we only grow outside our comfort zone.
Minimise liabilities (e.g. burnout, time drains) and protect the biggest, most valuable asset of your business – you! 🌟

Think about lifestyle, environment, creativity/intellectual stimulation, family, health/wellbeing, finance, impact you want to make, friends, networking... How important is each one to you? How does each score currently? Overlaps or gaps to focus on? Pause, assess, adjust.

Honesty: is xyz really a priority if you've not done anything towards it for months? If so, why not? Be intentional, strategic. Get where you want to be, not where you (or others) think you 'should' be. Your dreams/goals/priorities are yours – no one else's.

No 'one size fits all': not all businesses/business people look the same (not just power suits!). What do you want your business life and your non-work life to look like? One impacts the other: can't work 100 hours a week without affecting health, family, etc. Prioritise.

People you think are ahead of you* were once where you are now: if they can do it, so can you. Beliefs influence behaviour ('I can't do that', 'I'm not that sort of person') but we only know if our beliefs are true or false if we challenge them.
