A poem written for a competition with the prompt: "How has audio erotica affected your life?" — Defiance In prose I once wrote: "I broke my silence, and I will never be silent again." Now, fifteen years later, in poetry, I say: Yes, dear heart, you broke your silence You wrested your voice from those who told you that you'd never be more than a victim should the world discover the truth behind your pain. And, brave heart that you are, you used your voice to fight for those who were silenced by shame and oppression and a culture that revels in misassigning blame. But, kind heart, five years later they came for you. They smirked as they mocked, hunched over their keyboards. Why? All for a bet to see who could carve up your "delectable flesh".

You are not "broken". Cracked? Yes. Fractured? Perhaps. But broken? No, beloved. You are the light, the fire and the flame—should you choose to be.
