A photo of a reddish brown silk moth on a white surface from above with its wings spread. The moth has a fuzzy orange body, and has one feathery antennae. The forewings have a small dark eye-spot towards the tips, they are rusty orange with a lighter wavy band along the trailing edge, and a darker brown area closer to the body with a white chevron-like patch. The hind wings are similar with a white patch in the median area and wavy bands of lighter and darker colors throughout.
A photo of the moth from the side with it's wings closer showing it's plump fuzzy body and the undersides of the wings. THe body is thick and covered in hair-like scales, the dark eye is just visible above one of the legs. The wings are marked similarly to the top though the forewing's eye-spot is not as dark.
A photo of the moth from the side after release where it is resting on some Pokeweed (Phytolacca) leaves (which are wet with rain)
This is the Tulip Tree Silk #Moth, #Callosamia anguilifera. I rescued this one from a busy parking area last night. He's a bit battered, but hopefully he finds/has found a mate.
