Hume's White-eye, tiny yellow and white bird with thick white eye ring. Perched in bare branches. White-eye identification is tricky and the taxonomy confusing. There are two species in Peninsular Malaysia, Swinhoe's and Hume's. On Swinhoe's the brighter yellow head and throat should contrast with more olive green back and wings. This photo also shows an extensive yellow stripe along the belly, a good feature of Hume's. The best indicator however is the altitude and habitat, with Hume's being a bird of montane and foothill forests, and Swinhoe's a more lowland species in parks, gardens and coastal areas.

How about this Hume's White-eye for #smallbirdsaturday. White-eyes are notoriously difficult to identify but at altitude in #CameronHighlands this is the only likely species. More in alt text.
