The Crested lark is easily recognized by the small crest on its head, which it can raise or lower depending on its mood. Unlike many birds, it spends most of its time walking or running on the ground rather than perching in trees. Its brown, streaked feathers help it blend perfectly into dusty or sandy environments, making it hard to spot.

Early evening on the West coast of Ireland and a large number of starlings - apparently known in Ireland as ‘druids’- gather on the power lines and chatter noisily, possibly exchanging information about food sources.
