Yeavering Bell is a hill on the very edge of the #Cheviot Hills. On it lie the remains of the largest #IronAge #hillfort in the region. The tumbled stone rampart would originally have been two-and-a-half metres high and more than three metres thick.

Yesterday above Plenderleith in the #Cheviot Hills. Some modest summits shared with some of the denizens of rough grazing. The woolly locals were not so keen to hang around.

#Cheviot Hills today. Not too much rain and lots of low sunlight. There was a herd of heifers on the hill, mostly beef shorthorns. Very chilled.
Wide and deep view across southern Scotland from Coldsmouth Hill (England). Very green with good shadows showing the relief. Near right side is a hill fort, Green Humbleton. A prominent hill in the distance, Hownam Law is also fortified. Very lumpy terrain under scattered clouds.

A raw black sheep fleece stretched out on a large white bedsheet. The tips are bleached by the sun.
And this is why I can't be left unsupervised during shearing season. A beautiful black Cheviot fleece found its way into my crafty attic.

I've enjoyed our walk in #Cheviot Hills in #Northumberland last week. I don't get the chance of a bit of climbing in the Netherlands 😊 This area has been farmed for thousands of years. At Wether Hill and Brough Law we came across outlines of #IronAge roundhouses and hillforts.
