Lots of books with a mural on the upper wall below a glass ceiling. A model train runs above head height.
Shelves of books with a white door in the middle of an old stone wall, with “waiting room” painted on it.
Rows and rows of bookshelves in a high-vaulted room. A line of poetry spans two shelves, reading “I have desired to go / where springs not fail”
Shelves full of old annuals and comics
A second-hand bookshop in a former train station with a model train? Thank you very much!!! 📚 🚂

My #watercolour of a A street in #alnwick, #Northumberland.¬ The front building used to be a perfumery and used to have a bear in the cellar, or so the locals told.
A black and white image of a walkway with many wooden bookshelves either side of it. The genre of each bookshelf is written in capital letters on the outside of the bookshelf. This is at Barter Books in Alnwick, Northumberland, England. It is one of the largest second hand bookshops in Europe. The bookshop is housed in the town's old Victorian railway station, which was decommissioned in 1968. Lines from poems and quotes, such as those from the Song of Solomon seen in the image, are displayed throughout the shop. The text displayed prominently on a banner above the walkway for each row in the image is a quote from the Song of Solomon: "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle...". The shop operates on a barter system, allowing customers to trade their own books for store credit. It is known for its cozy atmosphere, featuring comfortable seating areas, open fireplaces, and a model railway that runs above the bookshelves

Fence me round on either hand;
Through that forest of dead words
I would hunt the living birds”

The image shows the historic Bondgate Tower (1450) in Alnwick, Northumberland, England decorated with festive Christmas lights on a dark December night. The archway features text and images made of lights, including a Christmas tree on either side of the archway, "ALNWICK LIGHTS" and on the top of the tower a depiction of Santa in a sleigh pulled by reindeer. The central emblem is the Alnwick town crest, featuring a lion rampant. A long exposure has captured the bright lights of cars driving through the archway, adding to the vibrant colours of the Christmas lights. The display is a community effort organized annually by the Alnwick Christmas Lights Committee, a group of local volunteers. Bondgate Tower also known as the Hotspur Tower or the Hotspur Gateway in reference to Sir Henry Percy (commonly known as Harry Hotspur), son of the 1st Earl of Northumberland and father of the 2nd Earl of Northumberland. Although commonly called a tower it is actually a gatehouse. It has three storeys constructed of stone and consists of a recessed archway flanked by two polygonal towers. A licence was granted in 1434 by Henry V to Henry Percy 2nd Earl of Northumberland to wall the town and add battlements.These took fifty years to complete, with Bondgate Tower being finished around 1450.

The image shows the exterior of Harry's Bar, a pub located in Alnwick, Northumberland, UK, with Christmas decorations in its two large windows on a December night. The surrounding street (Narrowgate) is also decorated with festive lighting, including a large red bell silhouette hanging overhead. The street is adorned with vibrant Christmas lights, including strings of red, green, and blue lights draped across the street and on buildings. A traditional shaped street lamp gives off a warm glow and red and green hues from the light flare. The wooden facade of the pub is painted sky blue. There are two large windows separated by a wooden frame. The pub's name is painted in gold capital letters on the surround above the windows. The pub is named after Harry Hotspur - a fearless & impulsive late 13C knight of the Percy family whose principal seat has been Alnwick Castle since 1307. The London football club, Tottenham Hotspur are so called because the Percy family owned the land where the club originated.
