Alnmouth beach, Northumberland, England on a bright but very windy December day. The wide angle image captures a sandy beach at low tide with some thin lines of sand blown towards the horizon by the strong wind. The end of a rainbow arcs from the top left corner to the middle of the picture level with the horizon. An unusual cloud formation has the appearance and shape of an owl in flight through the rainbow, the face being most evident. To the left in the far distance are grass covered sand dunes. And a glimpse of the stormy sea on the right. The sky above and running to the horizon is bright blue with some very faint streaky white clouds.

The beach is wet with some of it covered by very shallow water. In the foreground running horizontally left to right towards the sea is the weathered remains of a wooden groyne. The eroded wooden groyne posts stand upright with a bottom layer of wood at ground level. The layers above this are missing. Groynes help to protect the coastline from erosion and flooding. To the left in the distance are grass covered sand dunes. The sky above and running to the horizon is bright blue with some very faint streaky white clouds.
