A mass of pale, whitish green, branchy, tube-like, antler-like Imshaug’s tube lichen lies on the mulchy, weedy ground at the head of a coast range hiking trail. It’s also got these darker, brownish cup-like disc parts dotting the main mass. Super interesting! If my iNaturalist selection is right, this lichen species prefers conifer forests, which makes sense because that’s exactly where I was.

The brownish little cups are glossy in the inside too! If my iNaturalist selection is right, this lichen species prefers conifer forests, which makes sense because that’s exactly where I was.

Thick crystalline frost on dead grass. The crystals are bright white and look like snow.

No snow. We haven't even had any rain for a few weeks, which always makes me nervous in winter. But frost? Boy howdy, do we have frost. In the Oregon coast range, in spots that are in shadow all day, it builds up nice and thick.
