A 4” mixed media embroidery piece featuring 3 hammered marigold petals and a coreopsis tinctoria flower, hammered to extract their natural dye. The orange marigold petals have been embroidered to somewhat resemble a tulip flower, with one standing straight up, a short one leaning to the left, and the third reaching far to the left, behind the other flowers. The coreopsis flower is on the right of the hoop, with French knots in the center like pollen and golden threaded lines radiating out from the center. The flower hand stitched embroidery in whipped backstitch around the edge of the petals. The grasses underneath the flowers are straight stitches in green with golden French knots scattered throughout the grasses. This image shows the piece in full sun.

The same embroidery piece, but in different lighting- taken inside and more shadowed, but the golden coreopsis flower shows up better, though the orange marigold petals look fainter in color.

I thought I’d share my first #mixedmedia #embroidery and #naturaldye piece I made. I used #marigold petals and my favorite #coreopsistinctoria flower. I gifted this to a friend as a house warming gift. #flowerpounding is so fun & cathartic, I can’t wait for spring/summer! #art #botanicalart
