Thrilled to share this amazing publication โ the result of a NorthโSouth collaboration with @KalaKemangga and @DrescherJochen of @uniGoettingen. Thomisids have always been my babies.๐ท๏ธ๐ #CrabSpiders #Taxonomy @https://doi.org/10.3897/zookeys.1241.148348 via @ZooKeys_Journal
iNat thinks this is a Scotch Broom Seed Weevil (๐๐ณ๐ถ๐ค๐ฉ๐ช๐ฅ๐ช๐ถ๐ด ๐ท๐ช๐ญ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ด๐ถ๐ด), but I found about a dozen of these teeny tiny guys in the bloom of a Rugosa Rose.
A White-crowned Sparrow in a tree.
A teeny tiny guy on a leaf.
๐๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ฎ๐ข sp., likely Northern Bluet. On a stick!

Presumably male crabspider showing me how big and scary he is, by stretching his first pair of legs as far apart as he can.
Another crabspider sitting on a leaf in low vegetation. She doesn't seem to mind me snapping a picture. All the while she is facing away from me.
Yet, another crabspider sitting on the yellow flowers of what seems to be a "Black Medick" (Medicago lupulina). The grouped flowers appear sphere-like and are about the size of the spider sitting on them.
Had quite a busy few days. However, I never forgot to take a picture when out in nature.
Therefore, I present to you some crabspiders I came across ๐ฟ๐ท

Synema globosum, Thomisidae, is one of the species of spiders commonly known as "crab spiders", due to their morphology and typical position, with the first two pairs of legs larger and longer and always kept paired, which makes them look just like a crab; but it also has its own nickname: napoleon spider, due to the black pattern on its back that resembles the famous silhouette of Napoleon with his hat. Apart from the black silhouette, the color of the opisthosoma can vary from white to bright red, with all shades of yellow and orange in between.
