Thanks Katy (and thanks also for the reminder about #DailySarsen !) 😊
Some nice #DailySarsen thanks @durotrigesdig.bsky.social. This is a rare example of a dressed piece of sarsen stone.
Also, #DailySarsen. You can see the one at the building corner protecting the brickwork from vehicle strike. There are others in similar locations around the wharf. Unclear if they are from a local population of sarsens or brought up the Medway or Thames from westerly locations as ballast.
Some nice #DailySarsen, thanks @johnnythin.bsky.social Interesting to see a few boulders dotted around the edge of the plot in which the monument stands, and the enclosed landscape beyond from which sarsen surface spreads had largely been cleared (although boulders are shallowly buried in places).
And here’s how heat-affected bits of #sarsen very quickly become numerous small, angular bits of sarsen. These pieces from one finds bag all fit together. Bonus #DailySarsen
Colour photo of my left hand holding a large chunk of stone, purple red colour on one side and pale pinky grey on the other, with an open laptop behind.
Today’s #DailySarsen a typically coloured chunk of sarsen nodule/boulder from this area and this assemblage.
#dailysarsen. Puddingstone mix found in All Cannings
Colour photo of small clear plastic archaeological finds bags containing small dark brown stones.
Today’s #DailySarsen, a mix of small bags like this and a number of large, overfilled ones. After sitting-desk last week I’m standing-desk this week, but would really like a set up where I can sit on the floor and work at a tray desk of some sort!
Colour photo of two small red black coloured bits of stone, broken but which fit together, on a black background with scale bars to either side.
Today’s #DailySarsen, lots of heat-affected bits in this assemblage.
Colour photo of see through archaeology finds bags containing lumps of grey pink rock.
Today’s #DailySarsen, more recording of material from excavated just before Covid started, slow but steady progress!
Colour photo of lots of small grey brown chunks of stone in clear plastic finds bags, in a clear plastic box with the lid off.
Today’s #DailySarsen, box 3 of 13 recorded, starting box 4 to get a head start on tomorrow! This all excavated from a site in north Wiltshire just before the pandemic started.
Lovely #DailySarsen up behind Delling.
It’s #DailySarsen!
A grey stone stands between two of a more greenish and underneath another. The stone over 2m tall and a metre wide, it is assymetrical and narrows a third of the way up due to an irregular, semicircular constriction
The central upright of Kit's Coty House, Kent.
For 6,000 years doing much more more to mediate between the worlds of the living and the dead than holding the monument up. This megalith has a distinctive colour to the others, and an inescapable human profile.

A selfie of me sat in a kitchen covered rock by a fence
A slab of sandstone 1,2 x1.2x 0.5m, abutting a fence, with field and view to coastline beyond.
It's my birthday week & the start of another journey around the sun, so paused my Sunday run for a little sit down on Rest And Be Thankful.
A named Sarsen who's own Millenia-long journey into the darkness of the valley has been arrested by a fence.

An old map showing a rectangular earthwork/ enclosure. The word stone is written inside the enclosure
An old map showing a cross roads. The word 'stone' is written in three places on the map. Each of these words has a red square around it
An old map showing Tenants Hill. A stone circle is depicted and labelled
Do you like looking at old maps? Would you like to help us with some ‘quick fire’ desk-based mapping to look for potential sarsens?

Colour photo of a rounded stone with two holes in, one it the top for cereal grains and one in the side for a wooden handle to turn the stone around. My boot toe for scale. The stone looks like cement but the pebbles are in fact flints naturally cemented together by silica. This is puddingstone, from south east England (maybe Hertfordshire) or north France. This might even be a Roman artefact!
Some unexpected #DailySarsen today!
A puddingstone top stone of a beehive quern, under the hedge next to Lurgershall Mill.
Thank you, Dr. Katy! 💙 We're thrilled to have helped bring #DailySarsen and your incredible content to Bluesky. Your passion for #archaeology and #geology is inspiring - keep sharing those stony stories! 🪨✨

Several large stones have been placed upright, with another balanced on top of them. They are situated in farmland, with a hedge and farm buildings behind
The Hell Stone is a Neolithic Long Barrow that had a ‘make-over’ in the mid C19th. It would have originally looked similar to the Grey Mare and Her Colts. For more on Dorset barrows visit www.pastparticipate.co.uk/post/long-barrows #25sarsensofchristmas #dailysarsen #southdorsetridgeway#TombTuesday
A pyramid shaped stone, with it's point upwards. It is in a flat grassy field, with some trees in the background
This stone appears isolated and is standing on its head. Look at the orientation of the banding. What happened to the other stones from this field?

Nice bit of #DailySarsen 😍
One of our volunteers surveyed this stone in the summer. It looks as though it might have been used for grinding something, at some point!
