Desmos graph showing a definite integral and the equivalent region shaded under a curve

Desmos graph showing a definite integral and the equivalent region shaded under a curve

A useful #DesmosTip for #ALevelMaths

You can calculate definite integrals. If you define your function to be integrated as y1 you can also shade the area above (or below!) the x-axis using inequalities.

Thank you for sharing your #DesmosTip I hope you’ll share more.

We can also show the path traced out by the moving point.

A quick #DesmosTip for #ALevelMaths - to plot curves from parametric equations use expressions for x and y in terms of t as coordinates.

e.g. (t³-1,t²)

If you add a slider for t1 you can then plot a point for using:

(t1³-1,t1²)

Normal distribution calculation in Desmos

Normal distribution calculation in Desmos

A useful #DesmosTip for #AlevelMaths - when using distributions (such as normal or binomial), if you name them as a variable you can use this in probability calcuations with the cdf function, e.g.

N=normaldist(178,7)
cdf(N,185)×1000

Students can check their integrals by plotting the original function, the integral as f(x) and its derivative f'(x)

Ooh - new @desmos.bsky.social feature!

When you add a set of bivariate data there's now a linear regression button.

slow reveal

A useful #DesmosTip for #ALevelMaths

To 'slow reveal' a graph type a restriction first:
1. Type: k=-10
2. Type: {x<k}y=sin(x)

tangent to a curve

A useful #DesmosTip for #ALevelMaths

To plot a movable tangent to a curve use function notation:

1. Plot f(x), e.g. f(x)=x^2
2. Plot a point: (a,f(a))
3. Plot y-f(a)=f'(a)(x-a)
