Oh, PS - my creative solution for not having a warm winter hot beverate option was a spice blend. I mixed 2 t. ground cinnamon w/ 1 t. ea turmeric, ginger, & cayenne. I'd just drop a fat pinch in a cup of hot water, or lemon w/ honey, or coconut milk. Whatever I COULD drink! #DisabilityThreads

I spent the rest of the ride coming up w examples of things I thought might fit that person's criteria for "good," but I honestly wasn't sure. My brain kept it up long after the drive was over. (AuDHD, too.) I eventually realized that my normal life is that person's idea of "bad." #DisabilityThreads

My doctor thinks I may have arthritis.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry whenever I go to an apt anymore.

Since March I’ve been diagnosed with tinnitus (noise is permanent) b12 deficiency, low vitamin D, low iron & now starting to investigate arthritis.

As a disabled person one of the best accessibility tools I have is a robotic vacuum/mop.

A lot of people wouldn’t view this as an accessibility tool, but everyone needs to clean.

Everyone should have if it would benefit them & most never will because the cost is prohibitive.

Home | IPSA IPSA regulates and administers MPs’ staffing and business costs. We also decide the pay and pensions the UK’s elected MPs and their staff.

Looks like I’ll be submitting a FOI request to www.theipsa.org.uk

I am wanting to try and find out more info regarding the Disability Allowance & the claims MPs have made.

I would love to see more disabled people in politics, however the claims made are all lumped together

At a time when we need community the most, you decided we aren’t worthy.
This is also a November con during a regime set on giving us death by pandemic, be it COVID or bird flu or the flu itself.

So I guess we won’t be at GGC anymore.

Respecting My Disability: Don’t Yell At the Wind
Respecting My Disability: Don’t Yell At the Wind YouTube video by Recovery Daily Podcast

I talked to my psychiatrist about accepting my disability vs. respecting its limits. I’ve made peace with it, but I still retaliate. Recovery taught me strength is in boundaries, self-awareness, and not yelling at the wind. Listen and subscribe: youtu.be/rjLUxcNWOSU #DisabilityThreads

When You put your mental health first before anything, in many cases your mental health is way more important than any other thing.. am I wrong? #DisabilityThreads #mentalhealth

πŸ”΅ Know that YOU are not a β€œfailure.” Give yourself grace & credit. Read up on the conditions you have & how they can be approved (based on symptoms), & go from there. I’ve got your back as much as I can! πŸ’—πŸ§΅ 23/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ Know the implications of getting SSDI or SSI. SSDI does allow you to work to some extent. It might not be as much as we’d like as disabled folks, but it helps to know what we can achieve to make ends meet. 🩡🧡 22/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ The CDC identified pain as the leading cause of global mortality. Others ID’ed depression, etc. Talk in terms of those things, things they understand & can assess in a way that will be more helpful. 🧡 21/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ Again, bc SSDI is determined based on what functions are compromised, rather than a diagnosis, keep that at the forefront. Let them know how many (& have a list, if possible) daily life activities are had or impossible for you. 🧡 20/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ Don’t mask your difficulties to please anyone. Let them know specific tasks that are extremely hard or even impossible, & how much work you have to do to try to manage those things. 🧡 19/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ Take as much time as you need to explain how your daily activities are limited. I’ve told them that yes, I can get into the bathtub & brush my teeth, but that I have to do X many things to make that happen, & that I can’t always pull it off. 🧡 18/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ It’s 100% ok to ask them to clarify a ?. If they say, β€œCan you bathe/groom?”, ask them what they mean. Say you’re not sure how to answer if you struggle w things but can, if no alternative, manage something SOMETIMES or partially. 🧡 17/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ Be honest ab your limitations, not embarrassed. Be clear to ppl that not ever ? asked has a cut & dried answer. Eg- when they ask if you can manage daily activities, tell them how hard it is or what you’ve had to resort to just to get by. πŸ’—πŸ§΅ 16/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ I know some ppl fall in between having the $ to buy insurance or other necessities. There are state programs that acknowledge this. IL has insurance for PWD who work but make a little more than Medicaid allowsβ€”it’s still a big help. 🩡🧡 15/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ Check to see what’s available at the state & local levels, whether you’re approved or not. Many cities have mayors offices for PWD, & they know the conundrum we face. They can do some of that gap filling to keep you alive & as well as possible. 🧡 14/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ Be realistic but don’t lose hope! There are hurdles & delays, but remind yourself that you’re not alone, that there are many of us like you, that we care, & that you’re doing your best. Don’t let the process destroy the health you have. 🩡🧡 13/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t go through the 1st time, & try to remember that this is a case where the β€œsqueaky wheel”/persistence pay off. Ask anyone who may be a resource: Dr, friend, member of disability community, etc. for ideas/help. 🧡 10/ #DisabilityThreads

πŸ”΅ If you need healthcare most, most major hospitals have charity care for low income folks, w no cost. Some orgs have ways to fill the gaps, like job coaching or dental care on a sliding scale or for free. 🧡 9/ #DisabilityThreads
