At Coquina Beach just past Bodie Island Lighthouse on the Outer Banks NC (US) Brown Pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis) can be seen most days cruising the coast line occasionally diving from great heights to grab a fish. They can look a little clumsy doing it but it's because they're so large and they make a big splash but I never tire seeing it. It's quite a show. They can be found from New Jersey down to Venezuela and back up to Oregon. During nesting season they'll go as far north as Maine and British Vancouver.
