The surface of the moon has a brownish tint, and is littered with shallow craters. Earth is further back in the view, backlit by the sun, which itself is not visible. Both our planet and the moon are surrounded by the darkness of space, but the image conveys solemn and introspective feelings of seeing our home from an unfamiliar angle, photographed by brave members of the moon mission crew.
