Now, a #SundayPixDistance image that’s about distant time. My finger is pointing to a little Spriggina fossil, while a Dickinsonia fossil is nearby. These tiny animal fossils are pre-Cambrian, 550+ million years old. 🤯 #Ediacara #Nilpena #Ikara #FlindersRanges #SundayPix #SouthAustralia

A reddish, circular sticker of a bilateral creature.

This is a 5cm sticker of an Ediacaran fossil that I picked up at Nilpena and then stupidly didn’t label. Can anyone ID it for me? It looks a bit like a Dickinsonia but there aren’t any “ribs” coming off the central spine. #ediacara @gizmotron.bsky.social #fossils

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

A few zooms into my painting of Haootia, commissioned by McIlroy et al (2022). #Haootia fossils from Newfoundland (Late #Ediacara, 550Ma) have the oldest evidence for animal muscles. Also pictured are #Charnia and some #Parviscopa.

In 2022 I worked with McIlroy et al on a new reconstruction of Haootia (Stauroza), from the Late Ediacaran (550 Ma). The #Haootia fossils from Newfoundland, Canada, have the oldest known evidence for animal muscle tissue.

Tiny worm makes for big evolutionary discovery: Scientists describe 'Uncus,' the oldest ecdysozoan Everyone has a past. That includes the millions of species of insects, arachnids, and nematode worms that make up a major animal group called the Ecdysozoa.

“Ediacaran animals, which lived 635–538 million years ago, were ocean dwellers; their remains preserved as cast-like impressions on the seabed that later hardened to rock…uncovering them is a labor-intensive, delicate process…“ #ediacara #fossils #PreCambrian #SouthAustralia #Nilpena

A few photos from the day I spent filming at Mistaken Point, Newfoundland, in 2018. The crew were there to film the Ediacaran fossils and talk to the palaeontologists at Monument University Newfoundland.
