Eryops megacephalus, a big early Permian temnospondyli from Texas. Adult Eryops spend quite a lot of time on land, and with its massive skull full of sharp teeth it would have been a formidable competition to land-dwelling synapsid. However, being an amphibia, even adult Eryops still need to venture back to water to wet themselves and do the deeds. Still, I would not want to get caught in trouble with Eryops. Though temnospondyli still saves many of its worst nightmares for later...
And now for something a bit more normal, but heinous as well. The world famous long-faced Eryops megacephalus. I think if you mention prehistoric amphibia this would be the first to come to mind.
