A cross orb weaver spider clinging to a spider web. The spider is facing down. It has an orangish back with a white cross on it. There are also brown markings along both sides of the abdomen. The legs are alternating brown and tan. The moon is in the background to the left of the spider.

Say hello to my new little friend. I've been waiting a couple of years for one. She's finally here!
As a certified arachnophobe, it's taken me decades to even want to get close to a spider.

I have at least 5 of these on my balcony. Weaving webs from pot to pot, pot to balcony fence, clothes line to ceiling and across the walking area. The latter I always try to move which sometimes works, sometimes not so much 🕷🕸

Garden Spider (Araneus diadematus) in the (you guessed it!) garden, Leeds UK. June 2025.

Another 'macro' shot taken on my iPhone 7 Plus.

A close-up (macro) photograph of a young European Garden Spider on its web against a dark green background. The spider has a rounded, patterned abdomen with shades of tan, brown, and black, featuring intricate markings. Its legs are long, thin, and covered in fine hairs, with a light brown to orange colouring. The spider is positioned on a delicate, slightly damaged web, with some broken strands visible around it. The image is sharply focused on the spider, showing fine details of its body and the silk threads, while the background remains smooth and blurred, drawing attention entirely to the subject.

Supper time.

Setting up to photograph this pretty young garden spider when it suddenly shot out of frame and thought I'd missed my chance; but it scarpered straight back to the centre of its web with a tiny fly snack.

Discovered Monet cleansing our yard of pesky insects, just before I walked through his web. Spider photography's new to me after all these years; photography's great, because I'm always learning (i.e. making mistakes). Plenty to critique in this and the other photos. Hope Money stays around. Note: Couldn't get him from the front because of the foliage, especially plants that support his web.

Spider photography's no picnic-but a new challenge for me! 1. Monet morphing into a starfish. 2. Monet - web maintenance. 3. Monet traversing the boundary of the Web-Space-Time Continuum. 4. Monet - More web maintenance. #spiders #EuropeanGardenSpider #DepthofField #MacroPhotography #SpiderWeb
