Its most distinctive feature is a broad, bright yellow band on its otherwise black wings, which is particularly visible in flight. Native to Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia, it inhabits open woodlands, gardens, and farmlands. Goldfinches are highly social birds, often forming large flocks, or "charms," outside of the breeding season. They are known for their agile, undulating flight and a pleasant, twittering song.
