The #Europeanmantis is a large #hemimetabolicinsect in the family of the #Mantidae. Their common name #prayingmantis is derived from the distinctive posture of the first pair of legs that can be observed in animals in repose. I hope she laid eggs last year so I can have natural pest control.

The majority of the frame is occupied by a royal blue t-shirt. The screen print features a retro-1970’s style circle made of horizontal lines that go from graduating shades of red and orange at the bottom to lighter yellow, white, and blue at the top. The non-printed, royal blue center of the t-shirt shows a silhouette of a praying mantis on a thorny blackberry cane. At the very bottom of the frame, a tiny, real, live, straw-colored praying mantis makes the exact pose as the one on the t-shirt! The t-shirt serves as an artistic amplification of the tiny, real mantis perched on my son’s arm.
