DAY 15
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

Don't wander too deep in the wilds of Ireland lest your car and cell phone stop working and you find yourself at the edge of a forest full of hungry changelings that come out at night.

DAY 14
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

I love Rainbow Rowell's ability to create realistic characters in real settings so much that I'll pretty much read any of her mainstream novels. This one's a satisfying sorta-childhood-sweetheart tale.

DAY 13
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

A non-binary tea monk and a robot walking through the wilds. If you're sold already, this book is for you. One of the few books I've reread, and it's different every time. No villains, just relaxing.

DAY 12
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

An interesting book largely on the science of smell theory -- whether it's a particle or wave. Also eye-opening about how scientific research can be throttled if it's contrary to popular theories.

DAY 11
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

I'm always a sucker for a survival tale. A little girl gets lost on the Appalachian Trail, and this is her tale of survival in the wilderness nearly to Canada.

DAY 10
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

The best book I've read this year is a real brain scrambler that kept me on edge. Even if you guess its secrets, the rabbit hole is deeper than you know. It's a stunning mystery thriller horror.

DAY 9
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

Huck Finn told from the point of view of Jim. Turns out, he has some secrets and he's a master at code switching. Only, now he's had enough of pretending because he has nothing to lose. A must-read of 2024.

DAY 8
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

It's Groundhog day on a 4-day time loop where the characters have to figure out how to save the world, 4 days at a time when things start going bad. Great characters and luckily very light on romance.

DAY 7
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

I rarely like short stories, but Stephen King's are an exception because his writing style is comfortable and often endearingly achronistic. I have a couple of favorites (but hated the stroller one).

DAY 6
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

You know from the start that this is a book without answers, but you keep turning the pages as these women locked up underground for years seek to free themselves and figure out where they are. A hidden gem.

DAY
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

This book is silly fun. UFOs are here and the cats have gone weird. When we finally meet the aliens, they're ridiculously endearing. The book has no villains, and it has a warm-fuzzy, feel-good ending.

DAY 4
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

The main character in this book is afflicted by a strange illness that doesn't allow her to stay in the same place more than a few days or return to places she's visited. Wandering & leaving people is hard.

DAY 3
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

I'll ready any of Catriona Ward's mystery horror thrillers. They're always a twisty mind f***. This one takes place on the coast of Maine, piecing together what really happened during the friends' childhood.

DAY 2
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

I love a good mystery island book. This one is on the east coast of Canada and has mysterious radio broadcasts and ghosts. Maybe not all the questions get answered, but it's enjoyable and cozy.

DAY 1
Highlighting the best books I've read this year:

I'm a sucker for books with houses as a main character. Peeling back the layers of the stories about the house and its caretakers reveals a truth that's not what you expect. A great horror/fantasy smashup. 4.5⭐
