"Fishing with traps" (Visvangst met fuiken), part of the series Venationes, Piscationes et Aucupii Typi. The print was engraved by Philips Galle after a drawing by Hans Bol, and was produced in the late 16th century. It depicts a busy Dutch waterway scene where fishermen are emptying large wicker traps (fuiken) and collecting fish into a boat.

The 19th century was period decline of Irish #fishweir when a law was passed to remove many of these structures from the water courses and river mouth where they were located. This law was to enable and encourage river traffic for the purposes of trade and economic growth. 5/6
