Drawing on strategies of filmmaking and storytelling and pulling from literature, performance, music, visual arts, craft and design, Souvenir is the first in a trilogy of exhibitions the duo will curate throughout 2026 in the Chapel’s glimmering and profound interior – an enchanting jewel of Byzantine-inspired architecture in the heart of London.

King Charles III's speech from Fitzrovia Chapel.

My great-grandfather, Maurice Richard Josey (1870-1938) did the mosaics in the baptistry there (blue mosaics with angels) in 1935 assisted by my grandfather, John L. Josey.

Nice to see my ancestors work on the news.

Looking up to the Sanctuary ceiling of Fitzrovia Chapel. There are five single-light lancet windows and a ribbed gold semi-dome from which hangs an ornate sanctuary lamp. The walls are patterned marble with mosaic designs.

The Chapel Aumbry with a decorated door and a small 'crown' above it. Above that is a roundel depicting a pelican feeding its young. Below it, in an alcove, sit four candles.

My new #middlegrademystery features unique landmarks that children can visit, using the book’s ‘map of many places’. The #fitzroviachapel is one of my favourite #lininalspaces I was so lucky to be able to sit inside, writing it into the book, where the Chapel’s aumbry becomes a very special doorway!

A batistry within a church. Marble and mosaic surfaces. A font for baptising babies.

Maurice Richard Josey, assisted by his son, John, did the mosaics in the baptistry (blue are in photo) at Middlesex Hospital Chapel in 1935.
The hospital has since been demolished but the chapel, a grade 2 listed building, remains as Fitzrovia Chapel.
