Bryant’s profile Bryant uses Letterboxd to share film reviews and lists. 3,184 films watched. Favorites: In the Mood for Love (2000), Satantango (1994), The Master (2012), Crash (1996). Bio: Movies are magic. I wandered into a showing of Brazil as a kid, thinking it’d just be another Monty Python movie, and I haven’t been right since. Star ratings are quality; hearts are whether or not I liked it.  Some tags begin with categories, as follows: box: is for physical media boxed sets cc: is for Criterion Channel collections  t: is for theaters My sweetie Michele and I watch a lot of movies together, some of which have tags (usually with the suffix ‘fest): Boofest is our Friday night date night, which we work out in advance for each year. Sometimes we slip this to another time. Pulpfest is our standing (but not obligatory) Saturday morning genre movie date. Artfest is our occasional Tuesday night arthouse movie date.  Want a convenient calendar for all the Seattle indie movie theaters in one place? You got it.

A review of The Severed Sun (2024) Watched my own feature today for the first time in the cinema since its world premiere at Fantastic Fest. It was a screening at the Genesis Cinema, hosted by Straight8, a Super 8 competition I’ve been involved with since I made my short film Satan’s Bite ( which they actually screened before the feature). What follows are some of the thoughts that came to me while I was watching it... After a fairly long period of avoiding watching it, I felt immensely proud of what we’ve created. On the positive side, Ian Forbes and I have crafted a  consistent aesthetic,

Okay, according to the director himself it is in fact near future, so points to all of y’all! His write up is fascinating: boxd.it/9Oh13B #FolkHorrorFriday

The cover of the first issue of Crossroads: Folk Horror in the United States. It shows a figure playing a banjo in orange print over a stark blue natural backdrop. The title appears in white at the top with an orange X logo beneath. On the left, by the spine, is an orange bar with white text that reads "Issue 1: The Long Decade".

Also, for the #folkhorrorfriday crew and followers generally, if you haven't yet, check out @crossroadsfolk.bsky.social and their first issue, which is a joy from top to bottom. Some great writing, insights, and art in a sexy little volume. Hope I can scrape together enough money for future issues.

Much thanks @crossroadsfolk.bsky.social and the rest of the #FolkHorrorFriday folks! I don't know that I'd have gotten around to this one on my own, was an interesting shared watch though!

As always, #folkhorrorfriday remains one of the highlights of my week! (and tbh, my life is pretty good, so that's not a low bar) Really dug the vibe of this flick and, as always, loved the thoughts and observations from the gang. Y'all are smart and funny. Thanks for being here 🙂

I'm excited for RING. I haven't seen it since a re-watch after the Naomi Watts version came out.

Muscular little film. I wanted to like it more than I did, but it's curious that I liked the base themes and pretty much all the elements individually despite them not quite coming together for me in the end. Much like Antrum from a bit ago. Still found it a really enjoyable watch! #folkhorrorfriday

The Severed Sun's a cool title, too, for what they were going for thematically. #folkhorrorfriday #theseveredsun

My all time favorite Final Girl!

(unless judges determine she's not technically a Final Girl, in which case it's Nancy from Nightmare...) #folkhorrorfriday

That was a beautiful, intriguing film and I'm glad I saw it, but it did feel like a short film they weren't quite able to make into a feature, plotwise. I love the music. Thanks #folkhorrorfriday for another fun romp in the countryside!

No answers for YOU, audience! Which is 100% fine with me — this is not a puzzlebox, it’s folk horror, and as a mood story about a woman facing institutional misogyny in an isolated religious community I found this excellent. #FolkHorrorFriday

Yeah, so many of those tend to be the opposite of a Shrinky Dink scenario. Moreso, it's just - let's take this tight story, and give all of the scenes more air. #folkhorrorfriday

Just gonna say it: Emma Appleton covered in demonic black sludge and wielding a big knife is really doing it for me. #folkhorrorfriday

I do love a sun-drenched horror movie, though this is more dappled and filtered. Still, there’s a great folk horror feel to summertime sun. #folkhorrorfriday

Kind of agree, except I'd add that it looks and sounds great, too!
Honestly enjoying it, but some of that has to tie back to the #folkhorrorfriday crew, of course
