Lagotto Romagnolo is one of the most common breed of dogs used for truffle hunting. Being underground fruiting bodies with no visible access, or wind to carry spores, ripe truffles speak the language of smell. “Truffles had evolved to communicate to animals their readiness to be eaten. Humans and dogs had developed ways to communicate with one another about truffles’ chemical propositions.”

Prototaxites – giant fungi – were scattered across the landscape in the Devonian time period – 400 million years ago. Plants existed during that time, but none were taller than 1 m. Prototaxites grew to 1 m in diameter and 8 m high and they continued to tower over the land for about 40 million years.

You look into the eyes of this dapper possum standing on two legs, wearing an oversized top hat, and you wonder if there's some event or something because you already saw a snake and a cat in top hats too. Weird that it happened more than once. You worry about the top hat filling more than half the page despite the possums head not being able to support it and wonder if there's another furry guest inside that hat...
