Each of the two thick-set, heavily-built Great Black-backed Gulls has a gleaming white head and underparts, a dark grey-black mantle and wings, and a powerful bright-yellow beak with a red blob near the end of the lower mandible. Their eyes are a hypnotic, icy blue with an outer red ring. Their grey legs and pinkish-grey webbed feet are standing on a flat grey rock pocked with yellow lichen, in front of a choppy dark blue sea.
