진초이, 사턴코와 손잡고 네 번째 EP ‘SIDE-B’로 록 스펙트럼 확장 #진초이 #SIDEB #사단법인턴스타일코리아 #사턴코 #well17세잘파세대 #handlewithcare #mom!!iminlove #donotdisturb 만 17세 잘파 세대 싱어송라이터 진초이가 네 번째 EP를 통해 록 사운드에 본격적으로 발을 들였다. 인디팝, 일렉트로팝, 베드룸팝으로 구축해 온 결과물에 밴드와의 협업을 더해, 이전과 다른 결의 음악을 선보이는 지점이다. 이번 EP의 제목은 ‘SIDE-B’다. 7인치 싱글 바이닐 뒷면에서 아티스트의 개성 강한 곡을 담던 관습을 가져와, 대중적인 공식을 따르기보다 자신의 취향과 내면을 전면에 드러내는 구역으로 설정했다. 이에 따라 수록곡 전반이 일종의 ‘숨겨진 메뉴’처럼 구성돼 있다는 점이 눈에 띈다. 얼터너티브·파워 팝·펑크 아우른 ‘SIDE-B’, 7인치 바이닐 B면 콘셉트로 실험성 강화. (사진=진초이) 진초이는 이번 작업에서 밴드 사단법인 턴스타일 코리아(사턴코)와 함께했다. 협업을 통해 록의 여러 하위 장르를 넘나드는 시도를 펼치며, 기존 EP에서 쌓아 온 색채에 다른 질감을 덧입혔다. 얼터너티브 록, 파워 팝, 펑크 등으로 확장된 사운드는 사턴코와의 공동 작업 방향 속에서 구현됐다. 수록곡 중 ‘Runaway’는 진초이가 앞선 작업들에서 보여 온 정서를 유지하면서, 나른한 기타 리프를 중심에 둔 얼터너티브 록으로 풀어냈다. 타인에게는 친절하지만 속으로는 거리를 두는 태도, 빠르게 돌아가는 일상 속에서도 홀로 타투를 그리며 자신을 드러내는 장면이 가사에 놓이며 관계의 이중성을 드러낸다. ‘Strange’는 80년대 MTV 뮤직비디오를 떠올리게 하는 복고적인 톤의 파워 팝으로 채워졌다. 넷플릭스 드라마 ‘기묘한 이야기(Stranger Things)’를 연상시키는 기묘하고 공포스러운 분위기 속에서, 아련한 상실감을 노래하는 구성이 맞물린다. 영상세대의 취향과 80년대 레퍼런스를 동시에 끌어오는 방식이다. ‘Pink’는 이번 EP에서 가장 선이 굵은 곡이다. 진초이의 기존 작업물 가운데서도 특히 파격적이고 날카로운 펑크 트랙으로 자리하며, 상처 입는 상황을 피하기보다 속도를 줄이지 않고 밀고 나가겠다는 선언을 담는다. 록과 펑크의 에너지가 전면에 드러나는 지점이다. 진초이는 이전 EP ‘handlewithcare’에서도 ‘ROCK’이라는 제목의 곡을 R&B로 구성하는 등 장르 관습을 비트는 시도를 이어왔다. 이번 ‘SIDE-B’ 역시 사턴코와 함께 기존 틀을 벗어나려는 방향을 유지하며, 록 사운드를 도입하되 고정된 공식에 머물지 않는 접근을 택했다. 데뷔 이후 행보 역시 속도를 유지하고 있다. 2024년 10월 25일 데뷔한 뒤 EP ‘mom!!iminlove’, ‘donotdisturb’, ‘handlewithcare’를 연달아 선보였고, 싱글 ‘알랑말랑 (allang mallang)’, ‘Silly Faces’, ‘microGIANT’를 통해 장르와 주제를 가리지 않는 작업을 이어왔다. 짧은 기간 안에 EP와 싱글을 동시에 축적해가며 자신의 음악 세계를 넓혀온 셈이다. 협업 이력도 꾸준히 쌓였다. 세계적인 스포츠 브랜드 나이키의 협업 뮤지션으로 선정된 데 이어, 영국 음악 매거진 NME와 프리미엄 오디오 브랜드 보스(Bose)가 매년 떠오르는 신인 아티스트를 소개하는 컴필레이션 ‘C25 Mixtape’에서는 한국 대표 뮤지션으로 소개됐다. 국내 활동을 넘는 경로를 통해 존재감을 드러낸 사례다. 플랫폼이 주목한 신예라는 점도 확인됐다. 애플 뮤직이 선정한 2025년 최고의 음악 목록에 최연소 솔로 아티스트로 이름을 올리며, 평단과 대중이 함께 눈여겨보는 이름으로 자리했다. 데뷔 이후 이어진 다수의 작업과 해외 소개, 브랜드 협업이 함께 작동한 결과다. 잘파 세대의 감각을 전면에 앞세운 진초이의 네 번째 EP ‘SIDE-B’는 4월 1일 오후 6시부터 국내외 모든 음원 사이트에서 감상할 수 있다.
