Did you know? Whitebark pine is an “obligate mutualist” of the Clark’s nutcracker. That means that the pine needs the nutcracker for its survival. The nutcracker’s specialized beak can extract the seeds, and seeds that aren't eaten are free to grow! 🌎

Partially frozen Sheep River in a gorge.
Camera angle oriented slightly up, looking at snow-covered pine trees.
A fluffy white dog with a purple leash walks into an opening in the forest. The sun is low in the sky and hidden behind clouds.
A fluffy white dog stands on a snow-covered summit, facing the photographer. Mountains in the background are completely obscured by heavily overcast skies.
Yesterday, I took Kali hiking for a few hours and had the trail all to ourselves. Despite the lack of summit views, it was still worthwhile for the exercise and fresh air in a peaceful forest.
