Refitting buildings to create temporary accommodation is spending resources that are better spent building and maintaining and bringing up to code existing structures and housing. Australia has enough empty houses for ALL our homeless. And temporary extends harms indefinitely. 🤨 #HomesNow

You would think they’re well aware of that solution. Abrogating responsibility - ignoring the reality. All levels of government have to work together to solve this - they can start by raising the rate, slowing down rent increases, and stopping evictions to homelessness. & #HomesNow #auspol #housing

Just ignore the idiots that can’t do the math and don’t want to because they might realise how wrong they are. Ignore those that prefer to blame than know. #RaiseTheRte #HomesNow #auspol @jimchalmers.bsky.social

The base rate of JobSeeker for a homeless person is $778.00 per fortnight. Homeless people don’t get rent assistance. The rate of JobSeeker is so low it is driving homelessness. There is no doubt in my mind about it. Pensioners on much more, are struggling. #HomesNow #RaiseTheRate #auspol 🏡 😔

Here is an article about yesterday’s snap community meeting at Musgrave Park in Brisbane. Being homeless is not a crime of the person, but rather evidence of the negligence of the State. #Housing #HomesNow #RaiseTheRate #auspol

#auspol The Brisbane City Council needs to provide stocked amenities and leave the facilities open. The Qld Police need to be compassionate and not move people on to nowhere. This is a State responsibility. #Housing

No country is as rich as the one that puts all its people first. #HomesNow
#RaiseTheRate insisting that people live below the poverty line, forcing it on the unemployed and casually employed (allowing Pensioners to earn twice as much as JobSeekers while already getting a higher base rate) is wrong.

Temporary accommodation is NOT a home. It extends homelessness’s dispossession of the person and upsets any ability to feel secure at all. It removes agency from the person and doesn’t empower them at all. It empowers social workers who don’t care to do nothing real to assist. #HomesNow #auspol 😡

I think the police have stated they won’t be participating in this cruelty. Which is good to hear. This is not what we expect from them wrt public safety. Pretty sure the police would feel prouder of this country if we more obviously looked out for our own. #HomesNow #RaiseTheRate #auspol

Come to the snap community meeting in Brisbane’s Musgrave Park tomorrow about this. #auspol #HomesNow #HousingForAll

Meanwhile, let people camp if they need to (they need to). We are in a housing crisis. #AffordableHousingNow Maintain community connections. Maintain amenities and leave them open.

Homeless say streets safer than boarding houses as Brisbane cracks down on tents in parks A Queensland man faces being evicted again, with the Brisbane City Council announcing this week homeless people would be given 24 hours notice to leave the city's parks.

Here’s the article about that: www.abc.net.au/news/2025-03... #HousingForAll Homeless people have nowhere to go. What do people expect them to do? Get on boats and sail to Indonesia for asylum? Housing? Help? Australia: this is appalling. 😡 #HomesNow The issue is systemic poverty creation. #auspol

Homeless people from Moreton Bay City Council have ended up in Brisbane City Council and now risk being moved on from there too. Local Councils need to be helping the homeless to be safe, not evicting and passing them onto other Councils. Homelessness is a State concern. #HomesNow #qldpol

The article tells the story. Perhaps you could read it. The situation is that homeless people are being fined for sleeping out - when they have nowhere else to go. Moved on and belongings thrown away. Temporary accommodation is all that’s offered - it is still homelessness. #HomesNow #auspol

Yet dare to do the same thing if homeless - fined? #HomesNow

Hopefully good community support for better and open hearts making decisions with compassion - sensibility realising that looking after people well saves lives and dollars and creates a a safer environment for everyone to live in. Change is needed. This is wrong. #HomesNow #auspol #qldpol

Having lived it, I’m appalled. It is systemic poverty creation - and it’s sickening service organisations and providers are attempting to attach their salaries and pensions to temporary accommodation provision. Housing now: not bandaids for profits. #HousingForAll #HomesNow #auapol

Temporary housing is not housing. Forcing people into boxes to pretend you’re helping them: temporary boxes without full amenity are not housing either. #HomesNow #auspol

It is despicable. Nobody chooses poverty and homelessness. This is systemic. Government officials have failed and the homeless and those left behind by those decisions are the ones who are paying the price. #HomesNow #HousingForAll #auspol #RaiseTheRate

Brisbane mayor vows to evict homeless campers within 24 hours The decision was made after the City of Moreton Bay made homeless camping a crime on public land, with the Brisbane mayor saying the city can no longer take a "compassionate and flexible approach".

#Homelessness is NOT a choice. It is systemic economic disadvantage and beyond personal control. Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner now wants to evict homeless people from Beisbane. They have nowhere to go. Temporary accommodation is NOT a solution. #HomesNow #auspol www.abc.net.au/news/2025-03...
