A block of ice with the setting sun shining brightly behind it; there is a kind of moon in the ice behind a figure made of wheat or oats. The snow is crystallized. The piece is spare but deep.

Today is another day I do not go to the museum. A book opened, Concerning the Nature of Things - a list of plates, sampled: v. (a) floating magnets. (b) crystals in tube containing emanations. xii. (a) stormy water, (b) oil stilling the storm. (c) grape in soda water. xii. snow crystals of various forms ... a halo, mock suns-xxiii. crystal grains in a sample of steel. To the grains of wheat, to tassels of corn, light beckons: the world is born.
Friday’s Ice Art and Poetry: “Time Crystals” — The grasses make a figure in the block, with a kind of moon behind its tassel-head. The poem is a dense collage of feeling, which he hopes captures the depth of meaning crystallized in Mark’s simple piece.
