6️⃣ @drtedros.who.int acknowledged disappointment in not completing #PABS during #IGWG6, but stressed that effort has not been wasted – progress was made, even if differences remain. He welcomed the decision to resume, calling the pause an opportunity for renewed clarity and flexibility.
2️⃣ Negotiators agreed to suspend #IGWG6 and reconvene from April 27 to May 1 – four weeks from now. In the meantime, informal discussions will continue to identify consensus language and prepare text proposals for the resumed session.
1️⃣ Member States did not meet the goal of finishing the #PABS Annex at #IGWG6, but committed to continue negotiations ahead of #WHA79. Formal progress on the text was limited – yet informal dialogue showed new traction on some of the thorniest issues.
On Saturday, @who.int Member States concluded #IGWG6 without finalising the #PABS Annex – but with momentum. Negotiators agreed to extend talks, as traction was gaining on key issues.
Final-days takeaways 🧵👇🏼
"This pause is not a setback; it's an opportunity. It allows us to reflect, to consult further with our capitals, and to return with renewed clarity and flexibility not to keep negotiating indefinitely but to continute and to close, to close the deal. That's a choice, and it's the right one." #IGWG6
"The IGWG decided to hold a resumed session of the sixth meeting of the IGWG from 27 April to 1 May 2026, including stocktaking in the middle of the week in view of the mandate of the IGWG to submit its outcome regarding the PABS Annex to the Seventy-ninth World Health Assembly." #IGWG6 @who.int
#IGWG6 - Last day of the March 2026 session - WHO house kitty, Tim Tam diplomacy, and "On the compatability of Pathoplexus and user registration".
The "Hybrid PABS System" proposal - Yesterday, word of a "compromise" solution made the rounds of #IGWG6 - I am not sure how much traction this received.

4️⃣ While #IGWG5's text captures all Member State suggestions, the Bureau's #IGWG6 text aims to present a cleaner, more focused document – highlighting potential consensus areas to help finalise the text ahead of #WHA79 in May.
3️⃣ During today’s opening session, the Bureau and Africa Group clarified that #IGWG6 negotiations will build on #IGWG5's latest text while also considering ‘landing zone’ proposals the Bureau was asked to develop.
1️⃣ #IGWG6 is the last scheduled PABS negotiation before #WHA79. For the next 6️⃣ days, Member States will focus exclusively on operationalising the #PABS system – designed to ensure benefits in exchange for disease surveillance and pathogen data sharing.
This week, @who.int Member State delegates are in Geneva for #IGWG6, aiming to finalise negotiations on the #PABS Annex and advance the #PandemicAgreement toward ratification.
Key takeaways from Day 1️⃣ and issues to watch as talks unfold 🧵👇🏼
Indonesia on behalf of the Group for Equity: "• First, access and benefit sharing must be treated on an equal footing. The level of benefit-sharing obligations must be proportionate to the level of access expected from the System." #IGWG6
Pakistan: "Trust is the currency of this negotiation. If outcomes remain imbalanced, weakly defined, or deferred, confidence in this process will erode further." #IGWG6 @who.int
