Earlier this month, I attended #INSAR2025. I’m so grateful that my abstract was selected as a top-rated submission! I had a wonderful time connecting with incredible researchers and spending time with the MCLab!

big agree! listening and talking to the TPGA folks at #INSAR2025 was a huge highlight of my trip. a month out, these conversations helped inform my summer projects and funding priorities with my advisor.
More #Autistic researchers than ever at #INSAR2025! #AutINSAR
MacART member Dr. Yun-Ju (Claire) Chen stands and smiles next to her poster titled, "Discrepancy between Frequency and Functional Impact of Autistic Features As Assessed By the Autism Impact Measure: Associations with Child and Family Characteristics".
MacART colleague and PARC Study Kingston site Research Coordinator Melissa Susko smiles and stands next to her poster titled, "Experiences of Affiliate Stigma and Depressive Symptoms in Caregivers of Autistic Children: The Moderating Effect of Social Support".
🌟 MacART was thrilled to contribute to 12 presentations to the 2025 International Society for #Autism Research (INSAR) meeting in Seattle, Washington!

If you want to be a serious autism researcher, then you need to seriously pay attention to what autistic people want from research. #AutINSAR #INSAR2025

An important thread here in case you missed it #INSAR2025
#Menopause at #INSAR2025 more people should be able to prerecord talks due to cost and politics.
In case you missed it: #AutINSAR is a much-needed discussion between autistic people, autism researchers, family members, and professionals about priorities in autism research. This year it happened during #INSAR2025. Recap at TPGA:

Please know that I am still working on the #AutINSAR wrap-up (it was a HUGE chat) and hope to have it published this weekend. What a fantastic discussion we all had about autistic priorities for autism research! #INSAR2025
"I was told that almost 10% of attendees here in Seattle INSAR are Autistic. That is wonderful and I hope that number grows in the future—but it also means that we have the opportunity to attend to the needs of all our invited guests." Autistic autism researcher TC Waisman #INSAR2025 #disability
We at @thinkingautism.com are so grateful for the informative interview at #INSAR2025 with Autism Researcher Dr. TC Waisman.
“When I show up in a room I’m Black first. That’s what ppl see. They don’t see the invisible disabilities right away. This informs not only my worldview but the ways I want to challenge the barriers I’m experiencing.” Autistic researcher TC Waisman:

Research aimed at finding out what a few different stakeholder groups think often don't handle folks who belong to multiple stakeholder groups/have multiple roles very well. Makes it hard for autistic researchers, for example, or autistic parents of autistic kids.
#AutINSAR #INSAR2025
I can still count the number of articles *about/addressing* AAC for substantially speaking autistic people that I'm not an author for on one hand.
(Quite a few more reference my work, but ... often to say AAC is good for nonspeaking kids??)

It took a week to (mostly) recover from attending #INSAR2025, the International Meeting for Autism Research (we loved being there; it was also exhausting).
We'll start posting our official conference coverage soon, at www.ThinkingAutismGuide.com. Stay tuned!
We won’t relent in fight to save democracy, science & supports for disabled ppl. A #INSAR2025 highlight is autistic early career researchers pushing bigwig mentors toward neurodiversity affirmation - we won’t uncritically accept “profound autism” & mass institutionalization

#INSAR2025 #AutINSAR the irony is we save up our limited funds to attend, then have to endure hearing from some ‘experts’ how we’ve been minimized, overlooked (as #AutisticElders) denigrated, and potentially prevented from existing.
I have reflected on my experience at #insar2025. I was privileged to be able to present my work on the DEP. Had some wonderful, insightful conversations. But was disparaged by some of the language, focus on ABA and cures. As researchers we need to remember the numbers we present relate to people.
Congratulations to Connor Keating for winning the Dissertation Award from the International Society for Autism Research! A fantastic achievement👏 @connortkeating.bsky.social #INSAR2025

At #insar2025!
It's unclear how these research projects help RFK Jr achieve his long-stated goal of finding the "root cause of autism."
It's also worth pointing out that, under another admin, these items would be normal research areas. I saw variations of them last week at #INSAR2025.
Talk of life-cycle transitions for autistic people usually revolves around the important leap from our teenage years to adulthood. But all human transitions count as such. That’s why presentations like Dr. Grant’s “Autism From Menstruation To Menopause” matter. #INSAR2025 #AutisticElders
If u r interested in #RealAutismReseach, ignore RFK Jr.s ignorant pseudoscientic twaddle, and instead pls read Dr. Fletcher’s summary 🧵 of this important #INSAR2025 panel. Neurodivergence-Affirming &Inclusive Research Practices for Autistic People w/ High Support Needs.
Regardless, I share some lessons, built on the AASPIRE guidance for participatory research, for how we (myself, the council & my academic researchers) have created a space to meaningfully co-produce research. /3
#INSAR2025
I used the term "High Support Needs" (HSN) in the title - that was chosen by INSAR, not me.
For me, HSN means Autistic people with learning disabilities/intellectual disabilities or who are non-speaking. Not everyone would agree with this. /2

My #INSAR2025 talk - expertly tweeted by @thinkingautism.com & @aimeespeaks.bsky.social - is now available to watch: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n4c...
Focus: How I share power with lay Autistic people - including those with learning disabilities and who are non-speaking - and what they think of it /1
Boosting this as no one has answered yet. #INSAR2025
