I love these guys. We have a small population in North Auckland - originally flew from Governor Grey’s property on #KawauIsland over 100 yrs ago. They are absolutely crack up 😁

A view looking out over water to a distant tree covered island. A few small boats can be seen in the water. Trees are visible either side of the foreground in this image.
Looking out to what looks like an old chimney stack built of stone and brick, sitting down at water level. There is the blue sea too the right of the image. In the foreground of this image, on the left are large trees.
Last of all, a few photos from our walk to Dispute Cove, looking towards the remains of the copper mine.

A large mushroom with dark brown pores underneath and light brown top and stalk. The stalk is very textured and crinkled looking
The same mushroom as the previous image but with a persons hiking boot/trouser in frame. The mushroom is taller than the top of the hiking boot.
One more #shroom that I can't believe I forgot to post. This absolute unit. A Snowy Bolete (Austroboletus niveus), with my friends boot for scale.

A pair of legs in colourful floral leggings with hiking boots, sitting upon a reflective silver mat. Post these is short grass, a picnic table and in the distance the sea an island headland.
My #tramping group use those car sunshades that you put up in your front windows, as "sit-upons". They're non absorbent, light and pack down fairly small.

Two tiny dark red mushrooms (Ruby bonnet, Cruentomycena viscidocruenta) growing in a piece of rotting wood.
A Fragile Dapperling (Leucocoprinus fragilissimus), a white fungi with a top that looks paper thin and very delicate. It's surrounded by moss and fallen twigs.
A blushing rosette (Abortiporus biennis), a pinkish blob with droplets of pink liquid coming out of it.
A bright yellow mushroom sitting amongst between pine needles. The mushroom looks like a closed umbrella. It's been ID as in the Genus Leucocoprinus
Our weka counts were around sunset (counting calls), so our days were free for exploring. There were huge numbers of #mushrooms, particularly through the DoC area. Here are a few (details in the alt text)

A weka (Gallirallus australis). The bird is roughly the size of a hen with brown and blue/grey feathers. It is walking across short grass looking for food.
A view looking along the dock out to calm blue water. The tree covered hill is on the left. The sky is mostly white clouds with some blue showing through.
A view looking along a dock back to the land. There is calm blue water either side. On the land sits a large two storey building with ornate verandahs. There are large trees either side.
Over Easter weekend I went to Kawau Island to help with a weka count (the bird pictured below). The weather was rubbish so the ferry over was a bit bumpy. This also meant there weren't many visitors around Mansion House, so we pretty much had the area to ourselves.
