BIRD NEWS FLASH! I saw a kererū in Lincoln, NZ, on my bike ride home this evening. I’ve been counting birds at Lincoln since 2003 and this is the first time I’ve seen a kererū here.
I hope it sticks around.
This is the 4th kererū sighting on #iNaturalist (previously once in 2017 and twice in […]

Is it a mast year? A stonking great kererū just flew into the window. He got back into the air soon after, but he made an impression. He was a beast! #kererū #NZBirds

🌏 Kererū (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae) The Kererū, also known as Kūkupa, New Zealand Pigeon or Wood Pigeon is a large, plump bird with a small head. Its head, back, and wings are covered in iridescent green and bronze-purple feathers, contrasted by a bright white breast. Found throughout New Zealand, it lives in forests, parks, and gardens. Kererū are generally solitary or in pairs, but they can be seen in flocks when food is plentiful. They are slow, deliberate flyers, but their wings make a distinctive "whoosh" sound. 2.5 Flash (Edited) Two subspecies are recognised. Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1) 📷: Photo by Manubird via Pixabay https://pixabay.com/photos/pigeon-new-zealand-7712820/ KYPQ

Kererū after falcon had its fill
Warning graphic pictures may upset some people. It happened so fast I was not able to video it This Kererū started to fly, when out of the sky descended a Kārearea, NZ’s falcon. The Kererū was hit and landed on ground by the fence. The Kārearea had its meal, sadly only 1K remain #kererū #Kārearea

I'm not a bloody wood pigeon, I'm a magnificent Kereru.

I left New Zealand 22 years ago for work. I miss family, nature, and of course the #birds ! On a visit home last year with my husband and kids, I photographed this beautiful #kererū / NZ Pigeon (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae) that was feeding outside my Mum's lounge while we were all playing cards.

I made a picture for you. Burnished French paper stained with tea picked in India. One thousand minute brush strokes, earth pigments blended, lined, layered, dried, then speckled with gold. #kingfisher #kōtare #kererū #blmuk #vawg #humanrights #disabilityrights #climatejustice
