Kīlauea Volcano Update for Tuesday, February 10

The #USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says episode 42 is forecast to begin between February 12 & 15, based on current models of summit deformation. Summit inflation switched to deflation Monday morning, and deflation continued until just before noon on Tuesday.

Kilauea Volcano Update for Thursday, December 4 HAWAIʻI VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK - The next episode of high lava fountaining at the Kīlauea summit could start this weekend.

“Models suggest the onset of episode 38 fountains will occur between December 6 and 9, based on ground deformation models,” the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory stated.

Kīlauea Volcano Eruption Update for Tuesday, November 25 HAWAIʻI VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK - Scientists note recent indications that the magma level had dropped in the conduits, delaying the start of Episode 37.

The most likely window for start of episode 37 is between tomorrow November 26 and Thanksgiving Day, November 27. This forecast may change if additional unexpected deflation events occur. Previous episodes have been preceded by hours to days of precursory overflows of degassed magma.

Gas Jetting, Lava Spattering Overnight At Kīlauea Summit Vent HAWAIʻI VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK - Although summit inflation was relatively minor in the last 24 hours, magma appears to be high in the vent.

The next high fountain episode, Episode 36, is still most likely to occur between November 4th and November 8th. “Fluctuating inflation rates make it difficult to narrow the forecast window more at this time,” the Observatory says.

Episode 35 fountains began at about 8:05 p.m. HST from the north vent after about 30 minutes of continuous overflows of degassed lava. The fountains rapidly grew to about 500 feet (150 meters) when the south vent began erupting at 8:50 p.m. HST.

Kīlauea Volcano Update for Wednesday, October 15 HAWAIʻI VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK - Episode 35 in the ongoing summit eruption is still estimated to occur sometime between October 17 and 21.

Halemaʻumaʻu continues to be quiet this morning with passive outgassing plumes rising from the north & south vents. Incandescence was visible in the north vent & south vents last night, with south vent incandesces being mostly continuous starting around 10 pm on October 14.
