Exploring Kingston Lacy in Dorset, the grand home of the Bankes family from the 1660s until the late 20thC #kingstonlacy
Beautiful Kingston Lacy in Dorset. It was built by the Bankes family in the 1660s to replace Corfe Castle as their main residence. The house had a particularly fine portrait collection. In the care of @nationaltrust.org.uk

Love this. Where is it? Kind of reminds me of #KingstonLacy.
A group of snowdrops beneath Japanese Acers that have retained the last of their autumn colour. Leaves are scattered on the ground.

I was attracted by these Japanese Acers with their small rug of snowdrops below, that had somehow, through all the wind and rain, managed to retain some of their leaves all wet and glowing in the sunlight trying to peep through the clouds.
A garden ornament cherub on a pedestal green grass in front dried grasses behind on the left background evergreen trees in leaf and the spreading crown of a deciduous tree. To the right Kingston Lacy House. A broken cloudy sky above.

Made a 2nd trip to Kingston Lacy for Snowdrops and my eye was caught by 4 cherubs surrounding a bed. With one of them in the foreground I could get the house behind. This is a composite so I can have both cherub and house in focus.
A road through the Dorset countryside lined on both sides by Beech trees. Signs on both sides of the road warn of 'hidden dips for 2 miles. On the left is a small sign marking this as being in the care of The National Trust.
#trees #beechtree #treelinedavenue #kingstonlacy
This road is lined with old Beech trees planted by the then owner of Kingston Lacy House William Bankes as gift to his mother and to line the toll road which would earn him money. There were 365 trees on one side of the road and 366 on the other. Why?
...And now for something completely different.
Kingston Lacy. Big fancy National Trust house we visitied on our travels in Dorset. Big and fancy it most certainly is.

A low shot across the ground in amongst an established bamboo thicket. On an old flat tree stump strewn with bits of brown bamboo leaves are two Sylvanian Families babies. Pickle, a grey striped cat baby in a blue and pink explorer outfit and blue shoes, is standing on the left with a hand raised as they look to the right and the path ahead. Next to Pickle is a tiny cradled black cat baby in a long blue wrap with high collar, also looking to the right. It's Reggie!
We are NOT lost!
Promise
...
We just enjoying the yellow green and brown and maybe fell asleep for a bit and forgot how we got here.

What better way to spend an impossibly hot afternoon than taking advantage of some @nationaltrust.org.uk deckchairs at the lovely #KingstonLacy & catching up with some reading. Thoroughly enjoying Isabella Tree's book on the amazing (re)wilding work being done at #Knepp @kneppwilding.bsky.social

I'm not one for walking around the inside of stately homes but I love wandering around the gardens at #KingstonLacy near #Wimborne in #Dorset and of course the obligatory stop for #tea & #cake.

Side by side image of a late 1890s fashion drawing of a frilly tea gown alongside a similar surviving garment of white lace and chiffon with a purple silk trim
A visit to #kingstonlacy yesterday and this lovely Paquin tea gown which belonged to former occupant Henrietta n the late #1890s. She was a regular customer of the couturier’s London branch as evidenced by her surviving cheque book stubs #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

You can tell spring is on the way when the covers come off the lions and the Egyptian pieces...

This looks a bit like a wooded area at #KingstonLacy.

While I didn't get as many images as I could, due to the light level & it being so busy, I'm glad to get what I could & so after, it was time to go home, concluding a nice day out overall.

The final batch of images from today's trip to Kingston Lacy focus on the house itself as we venture inside to see what it was like.

We then saw what appeared to be a maze and a small pond in the gardens, before heading back to the house to have lunch, which we had right in front of it almost.

As well continued around the perimeter of the Kingston Lacy Estate, we encountered a small stream, a shed of some kind and several old trees.

It not only took us through some lovely woodlands, but it was also rather peaceful compared to around the house, which was quite busy to say the least.

These initial images were taken from outside the house and from some of the surrounding gardens with some much more to eventually come from my time here.

Went on a trip to Kingston Lacy today, a place that I haven't been too since I was very young (and probably can't remember) so it would nice to come here and have a proper explore of this place.
