Exhibits in one of the rooms at the Highland Folk Museum's former home at #Kingussie in 1947. It opened here in 1944. In the 1980s, an open air, living history site was established in #Newtonmore, where the collections now also reside.

Ruthven Barracks near Kingussie. The image shows a path leading up the steep side of a large grassy mound. It commences at a gate in the lower centre of the frame and proceeds towards the upper right of the frame. On top of the mound are the extensive stone ruins of the barracks, forming a large square structure with walls connecting larger buildings.
The impressive remains of Ruthven Barracks near Kingussie, built in the years to 1721 on the site of a castle first recorded in 1229 and later used by Alexander Stewart, 1st Earl of Buchan, better known as the Wolf of Badenoch. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...
