Photo showing a dropped kerb where a gap between kerb and roadway has been filled with concrete.
Photo showing a kerb with no drop, making it completely inaccessible to a wheelchair user.
Photo of very narrow pavement with a dropped kerb. The narrowness of the pavement together with the camber of the dropped kerb makes it inaccessible to most wheelchair users.
Photo of Cass, a wheelchair user, blocked by scaffolding which has reduced the usable width of pavement, together with a dropped kerb that is not flush and still has a sizeable lip.
Bigger question for me is, why is the council not ensuring our streetscape is accessible by design? Many of these examples were installed recently. We should be ensuring any streetscape changes take into account the needs of all users.
Thank you Cass for taking the time this morning.
